Sara Hilary Haines (born September 18, 1977 in Des Moines, Iowa) is a web correspondent at NBC's Today Show, a position she has held since May 2009.
She appears regularly during the weekday broadcast on todayshow.com to report on technology and Internet trends and hosts the "Backstage Pass" web segment. She reports daily during the fourth hour of the Today Show on Facebook and Twitter.
Live, Haines is often referred to as "Sara Sage" a nickname given to her by Kathie Lee Gifford. While interviewing Gifford for "Backstage Pass," Haines shared a story about aging. Gifford felt she was "wise beyond her years" and henceforth referred to her as Sage.
Prior to becoming a correspondent, Haines was the Production Coordinator for NBC's Today Show at Rockefeller Center in New York City. She has written and produced several live segments for the web show on topics ranging from fashion to food and has appeared on more than a dozen segments of the Today Show. Prior to joining NBC, Haines was in NBC's Page Program.
Haines attended Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts where she received a degree in Government. At Smith, Haines played basketball and volleyball. She presently resides in Manhattan and enjoys training for triathlons.
